The Good Samaritan
By Pastor Dewey L. Davis

Luke 10:30-35

30: And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31: And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32: And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33: But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34: And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35: And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

OUTLINE

           I.   The Robber will pull you down---(What is thine is mine, and I will take it if I can)
II.   Religion will pass you by---(What is mine is mine, and I will keep it if I can)
III.  The Redeemer will pick you up---(What is mine is thine, and I will give it if I can)

Verse 30 gives us a picture of a man going the wrong way in life, leaving Jerusalem (the place of peace) going down, down, down all the way to Jericho (a cursed city) by the dead sea. On the way the robbers and thieves attacked him, wounded him, and left him half dead.  The Bible says that Satan is a thief and a robber, out to kill, steal and destroy whoever he can.   His intentions are to pull you down, destroy you, steal from you, leave you without hope, and as good as dead.

In verse 31 and 32, we see religion come by.  Religion, and leaders of the church just viewed his situation and walk on the other side.  They were too occupied doing their own agenda to find time to help one so desperate and in need.  They were too busy to get their hands dirty or get involved. Often we are guilty of the same offense.

In verses 33 to 35, along came a Good Samaritan, and when he saw him he had compassion on him.  The Samaritan is a type of Christ, who wishes to redeem the lost; those destroyed by the bite of Satan, the rejected, the hurting, and lift them up, heal their wounds, and set them on a new path.  The Good Samaritan got involved; he took him to a place of healing, a place of restoration, a place of renewal, and a place of hope.  His life was restored, cleaned up, and he was set on a new path.  He not only got involved, but he paid for his debt in full.

Christ, our redeemer has paid the full debt for our sins.  He is our redeemer, our savior, our healer, the restorer of our life, and He will set our feet upon a new path.  I encourage you to trust Him today, turn your life over to Him, accept Him as your Savior and deliverer, and find that new life in Him.  The Good Samaritan said “when I return”, he was coming back.   Christ also said “I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”  He is soon to return.  Make Him your Savior today, and be ready to meet Him when He comes.  “Today is the day of Salvation.  Now is the Accepted time.”

FAITH
By Rev. Sue Tilley

Let’s examine what the Bible says about our faith.

How do we get this kind of faith?
  • the kind that sees us through our trials
  • the kind of faith that will not give up, in spite of the   circumstances
  • the kind that changes destinations
  • the kind that brings about healing
  • the kind that doesn’t give up when all the signs indicate the death of a loved one
  • the kind that looks at any circumstance that seems contrary to the will of God, and still believes that God is in control?

Mark 9:23-24
The man with the demon-possessed son beseeches Jesus to heal his son.  Jesus said "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.  And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears,
Lord, I believe;  help thou mine unbelief."

Matt. 17:14-20

A man came to ask him why His disciples could not cure his son that was a lunatic.  Jesus said, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."  He also said that this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.

When we come to the place of total surrender to the Lord,

in whatever area that He has chosen for us,

that supernatural gift of  “Great Faith” will be imparted to us.

Romans 10:17

“Faith cometh by hearing. and hearing by the word of God.”

I Corinthians 13

Loving ourselves is BELIEVING that we were made by God, special and unique, and for a definite purpose.  It’s not putting us on a pedestal.  It is part of FAITH.  It knows that we are God’s creatures, with special design, unique unto ourselves and believes that God doesn’t make junk.

It was Abraham’s faith that was accounted to him as righteousness.

In James, it says "faith without works is dead."  The reason is because without the works, we have to question our faith.

The Bible is based on faith.  We must believe:

  • that the Bible was written by men
  • inspired by God
      • led by the Holy Spirit
      • the Words of this Book are life and marrow to our bones
  • that it is the divine Word of God

Hebrews 11

See Hebrews 11.  This has been called the “faith chapter”.  Verse one describes the meaning of “faith”.  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  God spoke the worlds into existence.  By faith, they were created.

  1. Abel demonstrated his faith when he offered God the more excellent sacrifice.
  2. Enoch was translated.  He didn't even have to go through death.
  3. Noah became heir of the righteousness of God by faith.  He obeyed God and built the ark to save his family, in spite of the opposition.
  4. Abraham took his family and obeyed God, left his homeland, and became the father of many nations.  He offered up Isaac and was willing to sacrifice his long sought after son to be obedient to the Lord.
  5. Sara received strength from God to conceive seed when she was old because she judged the Lord faithful (she believed Him).

"Without faith, it is impossible to please God."

We must believe that He is,

And that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Romans 10:17

"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."

Romans 10:8-13...
"But what saith it?  The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart; that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Ephesians 2:8-10...
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

Our salvation is through faith in Him,
In the One who gave us this free gift.
We are saved through faith only.
Our works will follow,
But only as a subsequent action.
The faith must come first.
Faith will grow.
Apply that small measure to the situation,
And He will give you greater faith.

  • WE  CANNOT  EVER  BE  GOOD  ENOUGH
  • WE  CANNOT  EARN  OUR  SALVATION
  • WE  CANNOT  SAY  ENOUGH  PRAYERS
  • WE  CANNOT READ THE WORD OFTEN  ENOUGH
  • WE  CANNOT GIVE  ENOUGH  AWAY
  • WE  CANNOT SACRIFICE OURSELVES FOR      OTHERS ENOUGH TO EARN THESE REWARDS.

Ephesians 3:17-19

Christ dwelling in our hearts must be By Faith.  "That Christ may dwell in your hearts BY FAITH; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God."

Phiippians 3:8-9…

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Ephesians 1:13

Then we are sealed by His Spirit, in "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise."

Great Faith has to be given by God.

However, as we exercise the measure of faith that we are given,

His Holy Spirit is poured out on us in abundance.

Our faith grows as we see the supernatural power of God

working in our lives and in those around us.

Supernatural faith is produced by hearing,

and hearing produced by the Word of God.

Hide the word in your heart.

SEEK   AFTER  IT,      LEARN   IT,         DIGEST  IT,      AND APPLY  IT.
